The History of Social Robotics

The history of this specific technology and its development has been short, but prosperous in the field of interactive robotic development and has the potential to become a major part in our society. This history, starting in the early 1990s, has paved the way towards the next generation of how robotics can fit and interact into our society.

William Grey Walter was a poineer in the field of robotics. He was one of the first to develop an autonomous robot. These robots had the capability of finding their charging stations when their batteries became low. We see this today even with robots like Roomba.

Since this a relatively new idea and has started become more talked about with the rise of all technology, some people don’t buy into it yet. In other words the culture hasn’t adapted to it fully yet, but we could be on our way towards it.

Some of the technology that was utilized in the very first robots are utilized now. Since the 1990s we've started creating autonomous robots that can interact with it's environment and humans.
